Sharing Ink

So It’s been close to a week since I dropped the last Journal, close to a week since the last Finder responded, and I have been thinking about the project and it’s effects.

One of the huge things that struck me about Sharing Ink was the generosity of the people involved. From the amazing Ink and Spindle ladies who gave me all of the material to cover the Journals, through to the awesome Inscribers who were each so keen to be part of the project and who gave so freely of their time, to the beautiful Sassy Red and Public Studio who did such amazing things to promote it, and to the overwhelming support I’ve had from the general public, not only those keen to find a Journal, but those who simply let me know how much they liked the project.

I also loved the beauty that it uncovered in people. The touching and beautiful stories of the finders and the heart-achingly honest inscriptions were so humbling to receive and read.

It’s been a beautiful thing to be a part of. And it’s so wonderful to be able to make a difference, however small, in so many people’s lives. It’s a joyous thing, to make a gift for someone you love. It’s a slightly more nerve-racking but just as joyous thing to make a gift to leave out in the streets.

To everyone who got in contact, to everyone who was a part of it, everyone who helped out along the way, to everyone who found a Journal and to everyone who wished they could, I say thank you. Thank you for making this project so damn amazing!

Tomorrow, Sharing Ink starts!

Tomorrow, Sharing Ink starts!

I’m so excited… Tomorrow I’m starting to drop the Journals around the city. I’ll be leaving out 3 a day from the 1 – 10 August and giving clues as to where they’re going to be from Facebook and Twitter

I truly hope you find one.

In the final hours before the project officially starts, I just wanted to share this with you. Inscriber Adam Ford sent me some photos of a sign he’d put up at his work, letting his workmates know about the project. How awesome is that?

Sharing Ink

Sharing Ink is the latest Guerrilla Kindness project by public artist Sayraphim Lothian.

30 handmade books will be given to 30 local writers and artists to inscribe with a lovely message to a stranger. At the start of August, these books will be left out in various places around the Melbourne CBD as a gift to whoever finds them.

I’m working to make the world a nicer place, one hand crafted experience at a time.

Sharing Ink is a participatory art project which focuses on strengthening communities via shared experience. There are a number of individuals and local businesses who have or are helping the project along the way, including the Inscribers, the screen printers and the paper makers. In the weeks leading up to the drop, I’ll be revealing these participants and examining the roles they have played in this experience.

Our community is made up of so many wonderful people and so many acts of generosity are spontaneously done every day,  it makes our world a much more lovely place.  Thank you to all!
